5 Houston Center
Bringing the Lobby to Life
- PDR Service Design + Architecture, Brand
- Industry Sector Retail
- Office Houston
- Project Goal Company Purpose, Employee Experience, Collaboration
A real estate investment company saw 5 Houston Center as a major investment opportunity to enhance the experience of the stagnant office building. The open lobby, adjacent to the coffee shops serves as a welcome space for tenants and surrounding neighbors.
One unique design element within the lobby are the hand blown lights that meander through the space, gaining volume at the entry. The lights reference nature with a cloud-like structure that blends with the outside views of Discovery Green. They were treated very much as an art installation based as a contrast to the formal design of the existing space. The lights are hand blown, and what is interesting in their conception is that as they are blown, the artisan holds the glass with teflon gloves that gives the glass a textured finish.
